Introduction

Hello and welcome to my web site on stem cells. My name is Sushane Gupta and I am an 8th grader attending Rachel Carson middle school. This site was created for my 8th grade graduation project but my hope is it will aid the readers of this site in understanding stem cells and why we should or should not research them.

Why did I choose this topic?

Over the summer I had been looking into topics for my 8th grade science fair and 8th grade graduation project and my mother suggested I look into stem cells. I started doing some reading on the Internet and became extremely interested in the topic. My father thought it might be a complex topic to research and find a mentor but my mind was made up! Yes it was difficult at first to find a mentor but people are kind and willing to help and I was able to find three mentors!

My School

I attend an environmental school known as Rachel Carson Middle School. Rachel Carson herself was an environmentalist many years ago, hence the name of my school. In the past three years at Rachel Carson Middle School, I have learned more than a handful about science, ranging from plain old textbooks to experimenting with extraordinary material. Whether my experience was in class or outside in clay-like soil throbbing with Himalayan Blackberry, I unlocked my potential to discover and "play" with tools and nature. You may be surprised on how stem cells relate to environmental science so I have provided the next few paragraphs to explain my reasoning.
